Gémina refers to the life force within all women, their capacity to
create new life. It is both woman and seed, and their combined ability to
reproduce. Each entity represents life, while also giving new life. Fundación Gémina, therefore, is an organization born of a desire to work for progress in all areas related to protection of the vital components of life. The Foundation’s work goes beyond simple issues of gender. Gender equality and rights, of course, are part of the basis of this organization, but its work transcends traditional debates surrounding differences between the male and the female. Everything we do is based upon a belief in the essential value of life, of justice, of education, and of the possibility for growth. Our work seeks to benefit those who have been denied these basic rights for so long.
We believe in and have great respect for the differences among individuals in our society. Our goals, therefore, center around a desire to bring equal opportunities to each and every person. It is inequality in opportunities that limits social mobility and propagates institutional and social discrimination. We endeavor to give the beneficiaries of our programs (particularly those living in sectors marginalized by our society) the tools to create better lives for themselves. Each one of us deserves the opportunity to attain a better life. These are the principles that drive Fundación Gémina; this is the reason we exist.
Since its beginning, the people at Fundación Gémina decided to live up to the organization’s name; we decided to make our wager on life. Every day we work to honor that pledge.
